Reid: Unemployment Relief Is On The Way November 6, 2009 - Nevada Senator Harry Reid hailed the House’s passage of unemployment insurance legislation. “Relief is on the way to millions of American families who are struggling to find work in our recovering economy,” said Reid. Along with an extension of unemployment insurance for out-of-work Americans by up to 20 weeks, this legislation includes an expansion of the Homebuyer Tax Credit. “As I’ve said before, no state has been hit harder by foreclosures than Nevada, and this program brings hope to all Nevadans who want to pursue the American dream of home ownership,” said Reid.
Reid Meets Nevadans Showcasing Educational Technology November 5, 2009 - Nevada Senator Harry Reid met with Nevada exhibitors showcasing education technology at the Capitol. The Nevadans presented an earthquake simulation “shake table” that demonstrated how different magnitudes of earthquakes and various building materials are impacted by tremors. “People don’t realize that one of the most earthquake-prone places in the world is the state of Nevada,” said Reid. “And as a result of that I became interested in what the University of NV-Reno was doing regarding research on earthquakes. We’ve done some tremendously important and valuable work there.”
Reid: Senate Must Extend Unemployment for Out-of-Work Nevadans November 3, 2009 - Nevada Senator Harry Reid is working to pass an extension of unemployment benefits to help Nevadans who have lost their jobs. The bill the Senate will vote on this week extends unemployment insurance by up to fourteen weeks for the unemployed in all 50 states, and provides an additional six week extension to the hardest hit states, including Nevada. “That’s what this is all about — taking care of those people who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own,” said Reid.
