This week, Nevada seniors who reach the prescription drug coverage gap, or “donut hole,” will begin receiving $250 Medicare checks to help them cover the increase in prescription drug costs caused by the coverage gap. "The new health reform law will do a lot of good things for a lot of people, but one of the areas that we focused on was senior citizens and Medicare," said Reid. Over the next five years, the new health care reform law will completely close the donut hole, helping seniors further defray the costs of their medication. In 2011 the new law will reduce the gap by nearly 50 percent.
