Reid Saves Post Offices in Las Vegas

Senator Harry Reid discusses the closure of post offices with Postmaster General John Potter and former Nevada Congressman Jim Bilbray.

Washington, D.C. – Following the meeting he requested today with Jack Potter, the United States Postmaster General and Jim Bilbray, former Nevada Congressman and current member of the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors, Nevada Senator Harry Reid announced that only one post office in Las Vegas will be considered for consolidation.

The Garside, Huntridge and King Station offices along with the Inn Retail Unit at Desert Inn and Eastern have been removed from the list of branches to be submitted to the independent Postal Regulatory Commission for review for closure.  The Las Vegas Strip Station is now the only post office being considered for consolidation.

“The loss of these locations would have hurt these communities and I am pleased that Postmaster Potter and his team have decided to keep these stations open,” Reid said.  “Today’s announcement is good news for Nevadans concerned about losing valuable services.  I will continue working to ensure all Nevadans have access to government services like the Post Office.”
