Reid Announces More than $1 Million in Help for Struggling Nevadans

Food, housing assistance included in economic recovery funding

April 22, 2009

Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced more than $1 million in economic recovery finding through the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

EFSP funds can be used for a broad range of services, including: mass shelter; mass feeding; food distribution through food pantries and food banks; one-month assistance with rent; mortgage and utility payments to prevent evictions; and transition assistance from shelters to stable living conditions.

“In our current situation, too many Nevadans have needs that can’t wait until tomorrow,” Reid said. “This money can provide immediate assistance in a number of ways throughout Nevada, and it should help those who need a helping hand through tough times.”
