Reid, Ensign Announce Highway Safety Grants For Nevada

April 23, 2009

Washington D.C.—Nevada Senators Harry Reid and John Ensign today announced that two grants have been awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation for highway safety and enforcement programs in Carson City. The first grant provides more than $1 million for state highway safety programs. The second grant provides more than $200,000 for an enforcement program designed to reduce deaths and injuries by enforcing Nevada’s seatbelt law.

“The Department of Transportation does a tremendous job protecting passengers and drivers on Nevada’s roads.” Reid said. “We all know that wearing seatbelts saves lives. These funds will help give law enforcement the tools they need to protect those who travel on our roads.”

“A few years back, I was in a car accident and my seat belt saved my life,” said Ensign. “Nevada’s seat belt law is in effect because it saves lives, and this grant money will help to ensure that it is better enforced.”
