Reid: Fourth Straight Month Of Job Loss Underscores The Urgent Need To Strengthen The Economy

Washington, DC—Nevada Senator Harry Reid made the following statement today in response to a Department of Labor report that U.S. employers cut 20,000 jobs in April – the fourth month in a row of job losses for American workers and businesses:

"With the President and Bush Republicans offering the same failed economic strategy that got us to this point, it's no wonder that today's jobs report looks just like every other one this year: Americans continue to lose their jobs. For the fourth straight month, the dangers of Republicans' 'wait-and-see' approach to our economy are crystal clear – the numbers that should be down are up, and those that should be up are down. Gas prices and foreclosures keep growing while the value of the dollar and American jobs keep shrinking.

"America cannot afford for this streak to continue any further. Democrats will continue to take every opportunity to strengthen our economy in the short-term and address the long-term economic problems hurting America's middle class.
