Reid Announces Nearly $600,000 For Conservation Programs In Rural Nevada

May 12, 2010

Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced nearly $600,000 from the Department of Agriculture to help Nevada farmers, ranchers and landowners protect agricultural and forest land.  The state will receive $584,761 after applying for funding through the Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program, the Grassland Reserve Program, and the Healthy Forests Reserve Program. Funding is made available through the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008, also known as the Farm Bill.

“I’m pleased that Nevada ranchers and farmers will receive this funding so that we may continue to protect our state’s naturally beautiful environment,” Reid said.  “This funding will help private landowners, particularly those in rural Nevada, to conserve land and protect our water supply, soil, and wildlife habitat and help to ward off the threats that cause climate change.”
