Reid Welcomes Marine Forces Reserve To Nevada For Important Training

June 4, 2009

Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today welcomed as many as 2,000 active duty and Reserve Marines from Marine Forces Reserve units to the Silver State. They will participate in “Javelin Thrust 2009”, a significant joint and combined exercise at several locations in three states from June 6-20.

The Force will use Naval Air Station Fallon, as well as Hawthorne Army Depot, which Reid successfully fought to keep open during the latest Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process. Exercises like these help demonstrate the usefulness of Nevada’s military installations.

The training will showcase the Force’s wide range of combat and logistics capabilities and is a large-scale exercise being conducted to prepare Reserve units for their role in deployed Marine Air-Ground Task Forces. Some of these deployments will be to Iraq and Afghanistan.

“It is my distinct honor to welcome to Nevada these brave men and women of the Marine Forces Reserve,” Reid said. “I hope they will enjoy a successful training exercise in Hawthorne and Fallon, at two military installations I have always fought to protect and strengthen.”
