December 27, 2007 Las Vegas, NV – U.S. Senator Harry Reid of Nevada released the following statement on the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan. "I am deeply saddened to learn of the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. She was an important leader in Pakistan and this is a serious loss for the Pakistani people. “I hope those who committed these acts of terrorism will be brought to justice. “It is important, when faced with the violence and loss of innocent life over the last few days, that political leaders show a commitment to resolve but also restraint. Extremists must be brought to justice, but extremism must not undermine commitment to the rule of law, to human rights, and to democracy. I hope the United States can be helpful to Pakistan's government and its people in the coming days and weeks in ensuring peace, security, and democracy.” ###
