Reid Announces More Than $5.7 Million To Protect Nevada Against Pandemic Flue

July 10, 2009

Washington, D.C.—Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced that the Department of Health and Human Services has directed more than $5.7 million to help Nevada prepare for the presence of H1N1 flu virus and the fall flu season. Reid led the Senate to pass the supplemental appropriations bill making these funds available. This funding will be divided between three different grants supporting public health, emergency response, and hospital preparedness. The severity of flu season is difficult to predict, but this funding assures that Nevada’s public health sector will be prepared for all contingencies.

“We must be prepared for the upcoming flu season and I want to ensure all Nevadans are protected from this particular strain of the flu,” Reid said. “This funding will help the state prepare our emergency responders and hospitals for this potential flu pandemic.”
